The DEI Foundations Certificate by Healthcare Experience Foundation is a virtual learning program designed to equip leaders, staff, clinicians and physicians with strategies for interpersonal growth. Expect to gain knowledge and strategies for diversity, equity and inclusion that will help you and your team meet the ever-changing demands of today’s healthcare environment.

**This course consists of eight hours total learning time over two days

We’re excited to offer 6 Patient Experience Continuing Education credits (PXEs) through Patient Experience Institute (PXI). PXI is an independent non-profit committed to the improvement of patient experience through evidence-based research, continuing education and professional certification. PXEs can be applied towards Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) applications and/or to maintain certification designation.

DAY 1 | Modules 1-3

Thursday, April 25 | 10am - 2pm CDT

Module 1: Introduction to Diversity, Equity

and Inclusion

  • Understand the responsibilities and opportunities we have in our communities and as individuals
  • Explore key working definitions
  • Create a framework for interpersonal growth

Module 2: Cultural Humility

  • Understanding the impact of culture on healthcare interactions
  • Acknowledge the role of privilege and cultural blind spots
  • Explore ways cultural humility can support you

Module 3: Emotional Intelligence

  • Emotional Intelligence as a foundation for D.E.I.
  • Honing personal competence for awareness and self-management
  • Honing social competence for empathy and relationship management

DAY 2 | Modules 4-6

Friday, April 26 | 10am - 2pm CDT

Module 4: Implicit Bias

  • Define and understand the impact of implicit bias
  • Explore implicit bias in patient care and team interactions
  • Employ strategies to overcome bias and build trust

Module 5: Civility and Belonging

  • Define civility, incivility and a culture of belonging
  • Explore the impact of incivility in healthcare interactions
  • Understand microaggressions and subtle acts of exclusion
  • Employ strategies to move from observer to ally

Module 6: Inclusive Leadership

  • Identify traits of inclusive leaders
  • Build your circle of influence
  • Employ interpersonal leadership strategies
  • Apply learnings and action plan
